Indian Railways removed the caterer of the Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express on Wednesday after a passenger complained he was served a lizard in his order of vegetable biryani.
The passenger told ANI he ordered food in Mokama and complained to the ticket collector and tweeted to railway minister Suresh Prabhu after finding a lizard in his biryani.
“It is a very unfortunate incident. A detailed enquiry would be conducted in the case and necessary action would be taken,” Kumar said.
Kumar further said that the department’s main concern was the health of the passengers. All the passengers were attended and it was ensured that the passengers were given the necessary health treatment”, he said. He assured that the incident would be taken as a feedback of the railway system to improve the passenger services.
This comes roughly a week after the comptroller and auditor general of India slammed the railways for serving food that was found to be contaminated and expired. In a report tabled in Parliament, the CAG said the food served was unfit for human consumption and that fungal growth, rats and cockroaches were found in the pantry cars of even premier trains.
