Zapdos
Zapdos is the only Legendary Pokemon that has a firm release date. The Team Instinct mascot will be added to the game on August 7th...although most East Coast players probably won't get their hands on the Pokemon until August 8th.
Zapdos is an Electric/Flying type and could present the biggest challenge of the three Legendary Birds. Zapdos is only weak against Rock-Type and Ice-Type attacks, and its powerful Electric-Type attacks can do a lot of damage against most of the Pokemon with good Ice-Type moves.
However, players should still rely on the same Pokemon they've been using in Legendary Raids for the last two weeks. Golem is the best Zapdos counter, as it has a resistance to all of Zapdos's attacks and access to Stone Edge. Rhydon and Tyranitar are other solid counters to Zapdos's powerful Electric-Type moves.
Ho-Oh
Players are also expecting the arrival of Ho-Oh to Pokemon Go later this summer. Ho-Oh was originally the mascot Legendary Pokemon of Pokemon Gold and appeared in the very first episode of the Pokemon anime.
Ho-Oh is basically a souped up version of Moltres. As a Fire/Flying Pokemon, Ho-Oh has all the same strengths and weaknesses as Moltres...only with much better stats. In fact, many believe that Ho-Oh will wind up being the strongest Pokemon in Pokemon Go when it finally gets introduced.
Although players expected Pokemon Go to add Ho-Oh later this month, developers recently removed Ho-Oh's "base capture rate" stat from the game, meaning that it's not ready for release. It's an easy fix, of course, but it's still a sign that they're holding off on Ho-Oh until later.
Mewtwo
Mewtwo is probably the Legendary Pokemon players are looking forward to the most. Mewtwo was the original "end boss" of Pokemon Red and Blue, a powerful Pokemon that could only be unlocked after players defeated all the gyms and became champion of the Kanto region.
Mewtwo has the strongest Attack stat of any Pokemon in Pokemon Go, which will make it an even tougher Raid Boss than Lugia. It also has less weaknesses, so players won't have the benefit of using Golem and Rhydon to wear it down.
Although Mewtwo was a prominent part of Pokemon Go's Legendary announcement, it did make a cameo appearance at the end of the trailer. We're guessing that Mewtwo will be part of a major event sometime this fall.
The Legendary Beasts
The other three Legendary Pokemon are the "Legendary Beasts," three cat-like Pokemon that roamed the Johto region in Pokemon Gold and Silver. Suicune was a Water-Type Pokemon with a giant crystal on its head, Entei was a giant fanged Fire-Type Pokemon, and Raikou is an Electric-Type Pokemon with fur that resembled a stormcloud.
Although Suicune doesn't have much use in Pokemon Go, Entei and Raikou are both useful Pokemon. In fact, Raikou will be the strongest Electric-Type Pokemon when it's finally added to the game.
While some players are hopeful that the Legendary Beasts will be added soon, don't hold your breath. Pokemon Go has made no indication that these Pokemon will be added and we're guessing they won't appear until much later this year.
